Leather Industries of America (“LIA”), founded in 1917
as the Tanners Council of America, is one of the
oldest trade associations in the United States.
LIA has represented American tanners
and suppliers as the eyes, ears and voice
of the US Leather Industry in Washington DC
and around the world for over 100 years.
Leather Industries of America has been a successful and effective force helping the industry navigate the complex
world of markets, trade and government regulation and defending the beautiful and natural product that its members
produce and sell around the world. LIA provides environmental, technical, education, statistical and marketing
services — all at the direction of its membership and to the benefit of the leather industry.
Today, the LIA represents the vast majority of US tanners and its supplier base, including providers of the raw materials such as hides, and the chemicals used to convert hides and skins into the beautiful, natural and supple material that enhances the lives of Americans every day.
